01What is a cookie/ in 60 seconds

A short text file your browser stores.

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and send back on later visits. Cookies let a site remember who you are, keep you signed in, and measure traffic. Similar technologies — local storage, session storage, pixels — work the same way for the purposes of this notice and we treat them all together below.

02Categories we use/ three categories

Every cookie, by purpose.

We do not run advertising trackers and we do not allow third parties to set cookies for their own marketing on the marketing site.

01Required

Strictly necessary

Needed to deliver the site and the product. Without these the service cannot work. Used for authentication, session management, security, and load balancing. We do not ask for consent for this category because it is required by law for the service you have requested.

Examples
  • Session ID and CSRF token (vitae.ai, app.vitae.ai)
  • Authentication tokens after sign-in
  • Load balancer routing cookies
02Optional

Preferences

Remember choices you make so the site behaves the way you expect. Examples include theme, language, and dismissed banners.

Examples
  • Theme (light / dark)
  • Cookie banner dismissal flag
03Optional

Analytics

Privacy-friendly analytics that tell us which pages are popular, where visitors come from, and where things break. We do not set cross-site identifiers and we do not run advertising trackers.

Examples
  • Plausible / privacy-friendly first-party analytics events
  • Aggregated, non-identifying page-view counts
03Retention/ how long

How long each cookie lives.

Session cookies
Deleted when you close your browser.
Authentication tokens
Up to 30 days, refreshed on activity. Cleared on sign-out.
Preference cookies
Up to 12 months, then re-asked.
Analytics events
Aggregated and retained for 12 months. No cross-site identifier.
04Manage preferences/ your controls

Change your mind at any time.

On your first visit you will see a banner asking whether you accept optional cookies. You can change your choice at any time:

  • Click the “Cookie preferences” link in the footer (coming soon) to reopen the banner.
  • Clear cookies in your browser to reset your choices.
  • Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings — see the help pages for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.

Strictly necessary cookies cannot be turned off without breaking the service. You are not asked for consent to those, as they are required to deliver the service you have requested.
